Hangout with us next weekend: 8/5/2016 Begins the Summer Black Friday Weekend 2016

   DJ Seko Varner, and some business partners, have a great weekend next week with guests Lord Jamar from Brand Nubian and Dr. David Anderson from the Empowerment Network. Here's some of Seko's recent email:

     Friday 8/5/15 we'll network and lounge at Punch and Brunch (formerly SPADES) in the shopping center on the corner of Holland Road and Rosemont Road in Virginia Beach. This is the restaurant owned in part by Hampton U. grad DJ Baby Drew (who was on Love and Hip-Hop.......smh...) and DJ Jack of Spades with Chef Wimbo and Chef Dexter on the kitchen duties. We arrive at 8pm and it's free if you are dressed in Black. This is a networking event, bring business cards and network !

     Saturday 8/6/2016. It Takes a Village ! Saturday visit the FREE vendor village filled with OUR businesses at Military Circle Mall in the food court area. Enjoy great food by Seafood City, Chef Skip, and Vegan/Veggie gourmet by RealFoods. 

      Enjoy line dancing from Noon - 1 followed by great talks from our local thought leaders on the topic of "It Takes a Village to end tragedy." Special keynote talk from Lord Jamar from Brand Nubian. Great presentations from Godchild the Omen,  Montrell Lambert, Danielle Boose and Rashard Wright.



    After It Takes A Village meet and greet and party from 6 -9 pm with Lord Jamar at the Lord Jamar Day Party at Lei'Aunties in Janaf across from Paneras. At 7 pm Lord Jamar takes over the DJ business and we party NEW YORK STYLE !

Event Description

In an effort to heighten the economic awareness and financial responsibility in the African-American community, the film, Black Friday, presents solutions on how to better manage the 1.2 Trillion dollars that leaves African-American communities annually. In addition, the film champions financial literacy and the importance of leaving a financial and ethical legacy for the next generation.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department is CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for Volunteer Support Techs (VSTs)!!
NOW until August 1, 2016 !
Volunteer Support Technicians support firefighters with on-scene operations in the City of Virginia Beach. They man the Volunteer Support Trucks and after receiving training, they provide the required air, lighting and specialized equipment that are necessary to support firefighting. Support Techs also assist in hose packing, equipment placement, scene accountability, firefighter rehabilitation and other non-hazardous duties assigned by the Incident Commander.
 
Minimum Requirements
Age 18 at time of application
High school diploma or GED at time of application
Valid U.S. Driver's license at time of application
