Hello Imani,
On air this week, we have "The Music of Black Peru." In it, we explore the little-known splendor of Afro-Peruvian culture, listening to deep channels of musical style from that nation's Pacific coast. Want to dive further in? Read our interview with the innovative scholar Heidi Feldman.
On The Blog: Banning reviews the beautiful new orchestral album from Angelique Kidjo. Ben reviews a live performance from the god of sax-skronk Pharoah Sanders. We explore the tropical inspirations behind Chicano Batman's unique sound and premier a video from Cuba's Dayme Arocena.
For New Yorkers: The summer season is about to begin, which means one thing- free concerts! We'll have our picks coming out in the next week, but for now, be sure to check out the lineups for SummerStage, Celebrate Brooklyn, and Bam MetroTech (among others!). And remember- we are going to be out at a number of these shows, and we're always looking for volunteers to help! Shoot us an email to join the team!
Finally- we are currently hiring a new Operations Manager/Producer for New Media. For more information, check out afropop.org/jobs. If you think you're interested, you probably are!
See you out there!
-Sam
