Cowardly, Hypocritical, Subservient Congressional Black Caucus Endorses Israeli Apartheid and Current War Crimes in Gaza

Only 2 of over 40 Congressional Black Caucus members voted against legitimizing the 2009 Israeli massacre of 1400 mostly civilians in Gaza, with seven CBC members abstaining. Last week, with the Gaza death toll climbing toward 1,000 not a single CBC member could be bothered to lift a voice against Israel's genocidal assault of the moment or its ongoing apartheid state in general. Black America should hang our collective heads in shame.

All of Africa's leaders "in good standing" with the U.S. will gather in Washington, this weekend. On the continent, AFRICOM is boss, with a mission "to stymie, at will, the integration of Africa into a multi-polar world in which China is the center of gravity." China's trade with Africa far exceeds the U.S. However, "just as the Americans strong-armed the Europeans into sanctioning Russia, the U.S. will soon flex its AFRICOM muscles against China."

Afternoon testimony in the trial of Ted Wafer for the death of Renisha McBride on July 24th revealed less than stellar evidence collection techniques, suggesting the Dearborn Heights Police Department may have botched the case.  The prosecution called to the stand some of the officers who first responded within minutes to Wafer's home on Outer Drive, as well as a crime scene investigator, to paint a picture of what occurred in the moments, hours and days after the 55-year old airport maintenance worker shot the 19-year old McBride in the face with a shotgun.

World Opinion Turns Against Israel – But Not in Congressional Black Caucus

 

Israelis "can no longer frame themselves as the victims" in the conflict with occupied Palestinians, said veteran human rights activist and BAR columnist Ajamu Baraka. However, "it now appears that Black leadership has lost its moral compass and are standing shoulder to shoulder with something as brutal and backward as the assault on Palestine," said Baraka. Every member of the Congressional Black Caucus this month joined in a unanimous House resolution siding with Israel.

U.S. Academics Largely Silent on Israeli Crimes

 

American academics are largely mum on Israeli brutality in Gaza, said Dr. Johnny Williams, professor of sociology at Trinity College, in Hartford, Connecticut. "They are scared to talk about the kinds of war crimes that are being committed with this unprovoked war by Israel," he said. Except for Cornel West, Noam Chomsky "and a few others," academics are "essentially folks who tell the stories of rich people and the people who have power."

Kucinich: America Must Quit "Imperial Pretensions"

 

The U.S. is on the wrong side of history, said Dennis Kucinich, the former Ohio congressman, Cleveland mayor, and two-time presidential candidate. "Our policies of intervention, of regime change, of covert action, of linking up with groups that seek to destabilize and annihilate governments, are policies that are doomed to defeat," said Kucinich, who fought unsuccessfully to halt U.S. bombing of Libya in 2011, before he was redistricted out of his seat. "We have to quit these imperial pretensions and take care of business at home."

NYPD Reform Impossible Under Bratton

 

The choke-hold death of a Black New Yorker accused of selling loose cigarettes shows that Mayor Bill de Blasio should never have brought Bill Bratton back as police commissioner, said Josmar Trujillo, of New Yorkers Against Bratton. The group had warned that Bratton's obsession with so-called "quality of life" offenses would lead to disaster. "Back then, we said that his history and his policies were the exact opposite of reform," said Trujillo. "I think now people are starting to have the conversation, after the death of Eric Garner, about what's going on with Bratton's 'Broken Windows' policing."

Prisoners Have Voting Rights, Too

 

Back in 2008, Rev. Kenneth Glascow won a lawsuit affirming the right of many incarcerated people to vote, in Alabama. Glascow and his Ordinary People Society have been making the rounds of county jails, to determine if they are in compliance with the law. "Anybody who is in jail in Alabama for a crime that is not a crime of moral turpitude – meaning, they caused harm or danger to someone else – never loses their voting rights," said Glascow, who is the half-brother of Rev. Al Sharpton.

Witnesses Describe the 19-year old as staggering, "out of it" after car crash

Day two of Ted Wafer's trial in the death of Renisha McBride began with a picture of a "disoriented" and possibly injured McBride walking away from the scene of a car accident at least three times.

Witnesses testified that the 19-year old crashed her white Ford Taurus into a parked car in the area of Brammel and Majestic, not far from Warren, around 1 a.m on Nov. 2, 2013.

Fresh Start for Children, Assessment and Diagnostic Homes, a service of Intercept's LifeBridge Continuum of Care is proud to offer a free training on Effective Treatment for Sexually Reactive Youth by David Sorrentino, LPC and Cyreeta Price, LCSW

David is the Director of the Community Homes with Intercept Youth Services.  David oversees all clinical services delivered in 13 community homes throughout the state.  David received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2002 and a Master of Arts in Counseling Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2005.  David's professional experiences include being clinician on a child and adolescent acute inpatient unit, lead clinician in a Partial Hospitalization program and a clinician in several community homes with Intercept Youth Services in Newport News, Chesterfield and the Richmond area.  David was certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of North Carolina in 2007 and in the state of Virginia in 2011.  David also became certified as a Sex Offender Treatment Provider in the state of Virginia since 2012.

Cyreeta Price is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).  She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology and graduate degree in social work (MSW) from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Cyreeta has been providing community-based and residential mental health services in Virginia since 2004. She specializes in treatment modalities with children and families whose lives have been impacted by trauma to include sexual and physical abuse.

Participants will learn how to identify children demonstrating sexually reactive behaviors and effective treatment strategies.  Cyreeta will discuss statistics on sexual abuse, healthy stages of sexual development, facts about healthy exploration, therapeutic interventions, and steps to protect others.

Who should attend: Social Workers, Educators, Parents, Probation Officers, Counselors, FAPT and CPMT Members and anyone interested in the welfare of the youth in our communities

The Golden Fold's 2014 D2D Summer Leadership Academy (Virginia Beach, Va)

Hello family,

      On Saturday 8/23/14 & Sunday 8/24/14 at the Virginia Beach Boys & Girl's Club. The Golden Fold will have our 2nd annual Dare2Dream Summer Leadership Academy. It's a FREE program and the participants will receive abstinence-related Leadership training, lunch and snacks, and then will also receive $50 in gift cards from Wal*Mart and other sponsors when they complete the surveys that are sent to them 6 months and 12 months after they complete the training. Participants must be between 13 & 16 years of age and cannot have participated in earlier Dare2Dream Leadership sessions. Students must complete and submit their application and be fully accepted to participate. Applications are due 8/10/2014.    This is a reminder email ! Your teen, or a teen that you know, might benefit from this opportunity. The Golden Fold will be having a Summer Test Prep Academy to prepare students for the ASVAB, SAT & ACT tests on Tuesdays in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Details below !

     We will be preparing 15 participating students for the popular college entrance exams (SAT and ACT exams) by (1) aiding them to create online profiles for the SAT, ACT, and a practice ASVAB test website, (2) take the released practice tests for the exams, (3) complete learning style assessments, and (4) receive personalized guidance to improve in areas of exam preparedness using some of the FREE online platforms that are publicly available.

     There is a $20 donation to participate in the eight sessions which will be held each Tuesday from 6 pm until 8 pm in July and August 2014 at the Boys & Girl's club in Virginia Beach. The sessions begin on July 8th. The donation, made payable to the "Gamma Xi Uplift Foundation" will be to defray operating costs primarily. The Boys & Girls club is located at 1505 Competitor Court, Virginia Beach (Corner of Rosemont Road and Buckner Farms Road).

    There is a limit of 15 participants on a first-come first served basis.
