Subject: Virginia History Day Judging
Virginia History Day
January 15, 2014
Dear Colleague/Friend:
On April 26, 2014, Virginia History Day, the state competition of National History Day, will take place once again at Thomas Nelson Community College- Historic Triangle campus, 4601 Opportunity Lane, Williamsburg, Virginia. One of our requirements is that three highly qualified historians, history professionals, or educators judge each entry. We hope that you will be interested in serving as a judge for this event.
The Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest is a series of competitions on local, state, and national levels. Students in grades six through twelve conduct extensive research on a topic related to an annual theme and present their findings in historical papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries, and websites. This year students have focused on the theme "Rights and Responsibilities in History." More information about the competition can be found at www.nhd.org<http://www.nhd.org/> or www.history.org/vhd<http://www.history.org/vhd>.
Evaluation of student projects and discussion with fellow judges will take place from 9:00 am - 1:00pm. An orientation session will be held at 8:00 am, prior to the actual judging. To ensure the highest quality of judging, it is imperative that all judges attend this meeting. The students will be anxious to receive the evaluation of outstanding professionals. In return for your time and effort, we offer coffee and refreshments, a box lunch, a t-shirt, endless gratitude, and a positive perspective on Virginia's youth.
If you would like to participate please return the attached Virginia History Day Judges Information form to the address below by March 15, 2014. The information can also be e-mailed to awolfe@cwf.org<mailto:awolfe@cwf.org> or faxed to 757-565-8916. We will send more explicit information and confirm your judging category by March 22, 2014. If you have questions, please call 757-220-7186. Thank you in advance for your participation.
Sincerely,
