Greetings Friends and Members of The Coalition, Inc., Beloved, we are as a ship on a simple journey to the shores of our destiny. And as a ship depends on the cooperation of its crew to successfully navigate the seas, so must we cooperate to achieve our goals. We, as any crew, must contribute our talents judiciously; we must do the things we do best and be content with our contributions. There is a scripture in the Bible that says if you are an eye, be an eye, do not seek to be a foot, for what would the body be without the eye. If on this ship all seek to paddle from the port side, the ship will continue to move in circles, as we have seen for most of the five hundred years we have been in this country. Ex. We have been misguided by well-meaning 'leaders', to have laws passed that guarantee rights and privileges that are already guaranteed by law. What we should be demanding is enforcement and not accepting anything less. And we must do these things as a unified entity. We are all necessary to the survival and progress of the whole. We need to be a cohesive force and not allow our enemies, those who mean us no good, to pit us one against the other to negate the natural power of unity. We have been influenced to believe that better education can only be had in institutions controlled by whites, and money spent more wisely in businesses run by whites, when in reality, no one can better educate our children, and anticipate their needs than we ourselves. How powerful and economically stable would HBCU's be if we retained all our talent? No one needs our dollar power more than we do. We are the ones who should be determining what music/sports/food/fashion/entertainment our youth should be exposed to. We need to reset our value system to reflect the things that are truly important to us and not what is reflected by rich folk who just want to get richer. When Coach, Fendi, Minolo and Lexus begin recycling money into our economy, we can with good conscience, share our wealth with them. If we lose another generation to the sickness of this society while attempting to become major players in a game so obviously designed to destroy, or at the very least keep us oppressed, we have no one to blame but ourselves. We must welcome and be in alliance with all who share the goal of uplifting the quality of life for our families and communities. We are not really going in different directions, where we really differ is how we are going to dress for the occasion. This is our opportunity to make a real and significant change in the direction our ship must take. Together we can reach the shores of our destiny. "We each hold a piece to the puzzle." Ed.
