ITINERARY

Day 1, Sat Jun 07: TRANS-ATLANTIC FLIGHT
Depart from New York/LAX aboard Delta Airlines at 7:30p an overnight trans-Atlantic flight.

Day 2, Sun Jun 08:  MADRID
Morning arrival in Madrid.  Meet and greet and transfer to your hotel.  Escorted sightseeing tour will allow you to get a glimpse of some of Madrid's most outstanding attractions, including the Campo del Moro, the Templo de Debod, Puerta del Sol, the stately Alcala Gate, the busy Gran Via, the Plaza de España, and the Plaza de Oriente.  Lunch at a Senegalese restaurant.  After lunch return to hotel.  Orientation and Lecture-presentation by Runoko Rashidi on the African Presence in Early Europe.
Day 3, Mon Jun 09: MADRID
Visit the Prado Museum (with the focus the African Image in European Renaissance Art), the Museum of the Americas (with the emphasis on the African Presence in the Art of the Spanish Colonies of the Americas (including the Casta paintings), the Basilica of Our Lady of Atocha (the Black Madonna) and finish with a tour of San Lorenzo de el Escorial.

Day 4, Tue Jun 10: MADRID-MERIDA-SEVILLE
Buffet breakfast.  Journey south through the once remote region of Extremadura.  Arrival in ancient Merida, lunch and then an afternoon visit to the impressive Roman amphitheatre archeological site before continuing to Seville—one of the early capitals of Moorish Spain.  During the journey Dr. Rashidi will discuss the African Presence in Spain, Rome and the Ancient Meditteranean World.  Overnight in Seville.
Day 5, Wed Jun 11: SEVILLE
Buffet breakfast.  This morning's tour of the "Pearl of Andalucia" will explore this gracious city, Spain's third largest.  See the Tower of Gold, the tranquil and extensive Maria Luisa Park, the quaint Santa Cruz Quarter, and finally the huge cathedral (one of the largest in the world) with its Giralda Tower (a former minaret).  Time for lunch.  The afternoon is free to continue to explore or shop. This evening an optional Flamenco Show with the enjoyment of the local wines.
Day 6, Thu Jun 12: SEVILLE-CORDOBA-GRANADA
Buffet breakfast.  Depart to Cordoba.  Visit one of the world's marvels, the former Great Mosque (now a cathedral).  Time for lunch.  Continue to Granada, passing thousands of acres of olive groves.  During the journey Dr. Rashidi will discuss the History of the Moors in Spain.  This evening, visit the quaint and typical Albaicin Quarter for an illuminated Alhambra; where Andalusian customs, music and wine join to create an enchanting atmosphere.   Enjoy an evening of Flamenco music. Overnight
Day 7, Fri Jun 13: GRANADA-COSTA DEL SOL-TANGIER
Buffet breakfast.  This morning, enjoy an escorted tour of the amazing Moorish palace and fortress complex of the Alhambra and the verdant Gardens of the Generalife.  Drive through Costa del Sol to Tarifa, a city founded by Tarifa the Moor, where you will board the ferry to cross into Tangier, Morocco.  Overnight in Tangier.
Day 8, Sat Jun 14: TANGIER-FEZ
After breakfast leave for Fez, sightseeing tour of Fez one of the most representative Imperial cities of Morocco, dating back to the 9th century. Your guide will take you on a tour through the Medina declared Patrimony of Mankind by the UNESCO, and the second largest in the world, with its monuments, the Kariouine Mosque, the Medersa and the Old Universities.  Dinner and overnight in Fez.  Lecture by Dr. Rashidi on the African Presence in the Islamic World.

Day 9, Sun Jun 15: FEZ-TANGIER
After breakfast transfer to Tangier, one of the ancient cities in North Africa over 3000 years old with the backdrop of Gibraltar.  Tangier boasts a rich history and an impressive variety of architectural styles and traditions. You will spend the morning viewing the many monuments and neighborhoods the city has to offer, including the Kasbah, the Andalous gardens, El Socco and other sites of interest, ending your day with dinner and overnight in Tangier.

Day 10, Mon Jun 16: TANGIER-PORT TANGIER-PORT TARIFA-MALAGA
After breakfast transfer to Port in Tangier and boarding fast ferry Tangier/Tarifa, arriving to the Port in Tarifa and transfer to the Hotel in Malaga. Afternoon city tour; start with a visit to the Cathedral of Malaga, constructed between 1528 and 1782 and nicknamed La Manquita (the One-Armed Lady) because one of the cathedral two towers is unfinished. Continue to the Alcazaba, a Moorish fortress built in the 11th century. Perched on a hill in the middle of town, the Alcazaba is one of the best-preserved citadels in Spain. Overnight in Malaga

Day 11, Tue Jun 17: MALAGA
After breakfast transfer to airport for your Delta Airlines flight leaving at 1:20 pm and arriving at JFK the same day at 3:50 pm.

In  order to maintain blocked space and confirmed rates, an initial deposit of $200pp per seat booked due by October 31.  Payments made to Vacation Klub, LLC.
